A guided hill day is built around whoever has booked it. That might be the route you've always wanted to do but never fancied alone, a first fell for someone finding their feet, or a day learning to read the map so you need me a little less next time.

I plan the route, make the weather call, carry the group safety kit and keep an eye on the clock, which leaves you free to look up at the hills and not down at the map. Most days are in the North Pennines and the Lake District, on paths that are often emptier than the guidebooks suggest, and the walk to the start is part of the pleasure.

What's included

  • A route planned for your group, with a meeting point and timings.
  • A weather and conditions call the evening before.
  • Group safety kit: emergency shelter, first aid and a spare layer or two.
  • Navigation help on the day, as much or as little as you'd like.

Scope

I hold the Mountain Leader (Summer) award, which covers guided walking on non-technical hill terrain in summer conditions. It doesn't cover winter conditions, scrambling or graded terrain (Striding Edge or Sharp Edge, for example), so those routes sit outside what I offer. Summer ascents of Snowdon and Ben Nevis by their walking routes can be arranged.

A private guided hill day is £180 per day. Get in touch with your dates and group size and I'll come back with a route.
